PANEL DISCUSSION

Construction and the Climate Crisis: Taking the next steps

Architecture and the construction industry are notoriously resistant to change. Due to the timescales and the numerous parties involved in planning and realizing a building, current social concerns and phenomena manifest themselves in the built environment only with a significant time lag – if at all. Yet the current climate emergency leaves little time to wait.

According to current estimates, the world has until the year 2030 to make a significant dent in greenhouse gas emissions or else face irreversible ecosystem loss and compounding crises for the most vulnerable populations. Faced with this urgency, what is construction – and everyone involved with it – to do?
